Tier 4 (Child) student visa is for children between four and 17 years of age who come to the UK to study at an independent fee-paying school. Tier 4 (Child) students cannot study at publicly funded schools .
Tier 4 Student (Child) Visa Requirements
Tier 4(Child) Student has to demonstrate that funds are available to cover the full fee of the course. Maintenance amount depends on the care arrangements to be made for the child.
If the child is to be placed with a UK resident carer, the intended carer should have at least £500 per month to look after and accommodate the child for the duration of the course to a maximum of nine months. This figure will rise to £550 from April 2012.
Where the child student under 12 years of age is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, the requirement is £533 per month for the living costs of the child and £800 per month for the living costs of the parent or guardian. This is also subject to a maximum of nine months. From April 2012, the total requirement will be £900 for the parent and £600 for the child.
Child students of 16 or 17 years of age living independently need £800 per month if they are studying in Central London, or £600 per month elsewhere. From April 2012, the figures will rise to £900 and £700, respectively.
