Norway Immigration

The following is a guide to permanently living in Norway. Visit the Norway visa page to find out about a temporary visa for Norway.
If you are interested in permanent immigration to Norway you have two main options to consider: a permanent residency permit in Norway or Norwegian citizenship. Below is a detailed summary of both modes of Norway immigration.

Permanent Residence Permit Norway

You can apply for a permanent residency permit in Norway if you have been living in Norway for a period of three years or longer. Norway immigration laws require that the three-year period is continuous, meaning you must be legally living in Norway the entire time. You may spend up to seven months outside of Norway over this three year period, although each absence can not be longer than three months.
In order to qualify for permanent residence, one of the key requirements under Norway immigration law is that you complete tuition in the Norwegian language and social studies. A range of supporting documentation is also required for permanent immigration to Norway. This includes Norway immigration documents proving you have been living legally in the country for the past three years, a list of travel in and out of the country in the last three years, and documentation proving you have studied the Norwegian language.
Norway immigration officials can remove a permanent residence permit for Norway if you live outside the country for two years or more.
Take the free assessment to find out if you have the correct documentation allowing you to apply for permanent immigration to Norway.

Citizenship Norway

You can apply for Norwegian citizenship if you have legally lived in the country for seven of the past 10 years. You may only apply for citizenship if you plan to continue living in Norway after citizenship has been granted. The fact that you are permanently immigrating to Norway means that (in most cases) you must renounce citizenship of your original country. The other key requirement for immigration in Norway is that you complete tuition in the Norwegian language. The eligibility period drops to seven years in some circumstances, such as marriage. Denmark Student Visa

Duration of a Denmark Student Visa

For those people who wish to study in Higher Education, a student visa for Denmark will be granted for the duration of the program, however long it lasts for. If, however, you intend to study abroad in Denmark under the Basic or Youth Study Programs then you will only be able to stay for a maximum of one year.

Study in Denmark - Extension to Visa

If you are granted a residence permit while you study in Denmark for a higher education, the residence permit will only last for an extra six months following the end of your studies, to let you look for work. If you haven’t already been granted the half year to find work then you can submit an application for an extension following your period of study in Denmark, providing you do look for (and find) work.

Working while on Denmark Student Visa

If you’re a foreigner who visits to study in Denmark a higher educational program or necessary preparatory course ordered by the Ministry of Education then you are able to work for up to 15 hours each week during the school term. You are also able, under this student visa to Denmark, to work full time hours during the months of June, July and August, as well as the post-study job-seeking period. However, if you are under 18 when you study abroad in Denmark then there are some limitations on how or where you work, especially if you are on the Folk High Schools or on the Basic/Youth programs.

Denmark Student Visa Family regulations

If you are given a Denmark Student Visa to let you study in Denmark then you are allowed to bring your cohabiting partner and any child under the age of 18 living at home with you to the country. But as the Denmark Student visa states, you must show that you must have at least 25,000 Danish Kroner at your disposal for each member of your family. Under the rules of the student visa to Denmark, your spouse can work full-time during the entire period you are in the country.
For the Basic and Youth Danish student visas, you are ordinarily not allowed to bring your family to Denmark, and there is little leeway available here.

Work Permit Denmark

To learn whether or not you are eligible for a work permit in Denmark, you must first establish your nationality. Nordic citizens are able to live, work and even study in the country, as are members of the European Union or European Economic Area for the most part – most regulations stipulate no work permit to Denmark is needed.
Meanwhile those who are already based in the country with permits granted on family reunification or humanitarian grounds will not need a Denmark work visa. But if you do need a work visa for Denmark then you will need to obtain one on your own – you risk fines, imprisonment and deportation if you illegally work in Denmark.
The majority of Danish work permits available are for skilled workers, on schemes such as the below:
The Positive List details all the types of jobs and employment fields currently experiencing a shortage that need filling by those who have a Denmark work visa. If you have been offered a job in one of these professions then you will have a better chance of getting a work permit for Denmark.
The Corporate Scheme is a type of Denmark work visa that lets companies transfer essential staff to the country to let them work in a parent, subsidiary or sister company for a limited period of time. Meanwhile the Pay Limit Scheme allows people deserving of high salaries greater access to the Danish job market, providing they have a Danish work permit.
The Greencard Scheme is a type of Danish work permit for highly qualified men and women who wish to visit Denmark and hopefully find a job to work in Denmark. There are also special routes for researchers, trainees, athletes and religious employees who wish to work in Denmark, so long as documentation supporting the application is provided by the recognised governing bodies.
Some people are exempt from needing a work visa in Denmark. Diplomats, particular musicians and performing artists, transport industry employees and some Turkish citizens do not necessarily have to get a work permit for Denmark.
As you can see, there are many reasons why you may need a Denmark work visa or Danish work permit. If so, take the free assessment and start your amazing journey today. Find out further information on our Denmark Student Visa page.

Denmark Green Card

Denmark Green Card eligibility

To qualify for a Denmark Green Card - granting you permanent Denmark immigration - you’ll have to score more than 100 points on education, age, language and work history. The education portion of the Denmark Green Card is assessed by CIRIUS, which is overseen by the Denmark Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
There are 30 points awarded for a Bachelors degree, 50 points for a Bachelors degree plus a one year Masters degree, 60 points if you have obtained a Masters degree and 80 points if you have gained a PhD. There are also as many as 15 points available if your school ranks in the top 400 in the world, and a Green Card for Denmark is even closer to your hand should your education be in any way related to jobs found on the country’s Positive List, as this would give you a further 10 points.
Meanwhile, there are a possible 30 points available for proficiency in languages like Danish, Swedish or Norwegian, and English or German. Tests in both languages (including Danish Level 1) will be required to get a Green Card for Denmark.
The Danish Green Card also relies on points given for work experience having worked as either a researcher or in a job on the Positive List. As many as 15 points are available for people who have worked up to five years in either of these jobs, valuable points that go towards a Danish Green Card.
Age is also a point of interest for the Denmark Green Card, with 15 points awarded for anyone under the age of 34 and 10 points awarded to men and women aged between 35-40. Likewise, adaptability or prior experience living or working in the European Union or EEA is worth up to 15 points towards your Danish Green Card.

Family members and the Denmark Green Card

If you’re granted a Green Card for Denmark then your spouse will also be eligible to join you, as will any children under age 18. Your partner is able to work full time for the whole of your Danish Green Card’s allotted period, should you want them to do so. Find out further information on our Work Permit Denmark page.

Visa Benefits

As with tourist visas across a range of countries, South African visas for short-term visits offer their holder permission to travel to the country.
As is the case with a visa for any country, the document affords permission to seek entry upon arrival.
In most cases a South Africa visit visa provides the standard route for those wishing to enter the country for a short period for the purpose of tourism, business activities (though employment is not permitted) visiting family, or to undergo education or training up to a maximum period of three months.
For the visitor permit there are no SA visa requirements imposed upon the holder beyond the ability to support themselves for the duration of their stay and the intention to depart prior to or upon expiry of the tourist visa.

Visa Eligibility

In South Africa, visas for tourists are actually available in two categories.
The standard short-term visit visa is granted for a period of three months, however this can be extended on one occasion by a further three months depending on the purpose of the extension and provided that an applicant applying for a South Africa visitor visa extension possesses a valid return air ticket.
Candidates wishing to apply for a South African visit visa will need to provide the following:
  • A valid passport with a minimum of six months remaining.
  • Passport sized photographs.
  • Evidence that they can support themselves financially throughout the time in the country.
In addition, applicants must be considered to be of sound mind and have no criminal record.
The second South African visitor permit is known as the "extended visitor permit" and is designed primarily for those who wish to conduct research, study in South Africa, or pursue voluntary or charity work in the country.
This South African visa is valid for a period of up to three years and requires candidates to provide a range of supporting documents including divorce papers if applicable, a clean bill of health having undergone a medical examination and evidence of enough money to support their stay in South Africa.
In addition, like a standard visit visa for South Africa, applicants must not have a criminal record. It is important to note that this South African visa neither constitutes nor encompasses a work permit application and that those wishing to work will need to apply for a work permit separately.

Visit Visa Exemptions

Immigrating to South Africa for a limited time is permitted for nationals of some countries. Candidates migrating to South Africa from the following countries may reside in South Africa without the need to apply for a visa for a period not exceeding 90 days.
This list is not exhaustive as foreign nationals of several other nations are permitted to enter the country without making a visa application for a reduced period of thirty days.
In addition, nationals of the United Kingdom and many (though not all) of her territories are exempt from the need to apply. A Global Visas migration consultant will be able to discuss the requirements for your country in detail.

Transit visas

Those entering the country en route to another final destination may apply for a South African transit visa, which grants its holder entry to the international transit zone of the airport, but not to the national territory.
Visas of this kind may be valid for up to 72 hours and will require candidates to be in possession of return or onward tickets.

Dependents

In South Africa, immigration through this particular visa class is specifically intended as a temporary solution for migration to South Africa.
Applicants will be expected to return home at the end of their stay and as a result, Spouse immigration and dependent immigration are not expressly provided for. All candidates applying for South African visitor permits must qualify in their own right.
